[ Zhongli opens the door with a look of surprise and then a laugh after the hug and kiss from Byleth of all people. He knows how birthdays work, of course, but he wasn't expecting something from Byleth of all people?!

Though he moves to the side to allow the other man in holding the door open with a hand that's a ring on it, given to him by a certain fatui harbinger. ]

This is a welcomed surprise. I thank you for the wonderful wishes. You will have to forgive my state. I was not expecting much company today. Would you care for some tea?

You always look good enough to eat, Zhongli. And you seem to be in good spirits as well.

[ He definitely notices that ring. He'll ask in time. For now, he steps in when he's invited. ]

Ahh yes, but allow me to make it. You ought to be pampered for your birthday, don't you think? I do hope surprise isn't an imposition of course, I am merely at your service.

[ Zhongli has not used that sort of terminology before?! So he just chuckles as he closes the door behind the other once he's inside. ]

That's a strange saying humans use, correct? This is the first I've ever heard it before. [ But he certainly is in good spirits or at least that's how one might perceive it. Zhongli admittedly doesn't exactly emote it very well. ]

An imposition? It's not at all, your presence is welcomed any time here.

Ah, yes. The implication is that you're very, very attractive. [ There's a little mirth in his voice as he explains. ] Although there are a couple of more literal ways I could eat you...

Ah. I...see. Humans definitely have a strange way of wording what exactly it is that they feel. [ For someone who is a stickler for contracts and word for word things it makes it harder for Zhongli to understand what people are on about sometimes?! He does look down at his gloved hand and nods. ]

Hm. Yes, it is. It was given to me by Childe. It's a kind gesture, isn't it?

[ He lifts a brow at Zhongli, a coy smile on his lips. ]

Is it the kind of ring I think it is then? You haven't spoken to me much about Childe. What's he like? He seems very kind to give you something like that.

That kind of...ah. N-No. I...I don't believe it to be. [ Why is his face getting hot?! Even as he fiddles with the ring on his finger he might look back at Byleth. ]

Childe is...complex, challenging. He keeps me on my toes if nothing else. But he is also capable of sincere kindness such as this. Though I confess that he is sometimes difficult to understand, but I'm trying to get better at learning and understanding such things.

Oh, I see. Either way it's a lovely gift.

Sometimes those who challenge us the most care for us the most too. I'd like to meet him sometime, if you don't mind. He sounds like an interesting man.

[ Hm. That is...a bad idea on many levels that Zhongli will not get into right now. So he simply huffs and crosses his arms over his chest. ]

Perhaps someday. Right now might not be a good time. [ After all they had just mended things between them but he does feel bad not mentioning that Byleth was the cause of their disagreement. Childe was quite possessive and it would appear jealous, so it's best to not disturb the waters as the saying goes. ]

[ Byleth has no clue, and of course he's mostly just concerned for Zhongli. ]

Yes. Everything is alright now. Childe was just having a difficult time with things for a while here. It would be best to give him some time.

[ But Zhongli smiles and nods at Byleth's next comment. ]

Ah- yes of course. I'll get on it. [ Which he goes, going to put a kettle on. ]

I was thinking perhaps after tea I might be able to give you a little treat.

[ He might blink though at Byleth's ending statement. ]

While receiving a gift is often a tradition for one's birthday you need not worry yourself over such things. Simply being in your company like this is more than enough. [ But!! But...he wouldn't want to offend and decline the other's offer before he even hears what it is. ]

Still, if you wish to indulge me then I would not wish to offend by declining either.
